Alexander read law at the University of Bristol and was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 2011. In 2019, Alexander passed the relevant examinations and is accredited as a Certified Fraud Examiner.
In the field of restructuring and insolvency, Alexander routinely acts for distressed companies, institutional creditors, white-knight investors and insolvency administrators (e.g. liquidators, judicial managers and scheme administrators) in both domestic and cross-border matters.
Alexander also specializes in corporate, commercial and banking disputes work, whilst maintaining a vibrant advisory practice in the fields of employment law and corporate (risk) advisory.
In this regard, Alexander has previously accepted instructions from clients such as multinational corporations, financial institutions and statutory bodies.
Notable matters Alexander has been involved in include:
- Successfully opposing a moratorium and restructuring proposal by Pacific Andes Resources Development. Complex issues of cross-border restructuring, jurisdiction and statutory interpretation were involved: see Pacific Andes Resources Development Ltd and other matters [2016] SGHC 210).
- Advising a US private equity fund in opposing a debt restructuring proposal, subsequently reported as Pathfinder Strategic Credit LP v Empire Capital Resources Pte Ltd [2019] SGCA 29.
- Advising and acting for several institutional creditors in connection with the Swiber Group’s legal and financial difficulties prior and subsequent to the Group’s entry into judicial management.
- Acting for an Indonesian conglomerate in the restructuring of debts exceeding USD 5 billion.
- Successfully obtaining a court-ordered repatriation of Singapore-based assets to the principle place of liquidation in Germany: see Beluga Chartering GmbH (in liquidation) and others v Beluga Projects (Singapore) Pte Ltd (in liquidation) and another (deugro (Singapore) Pte Ltd, non-party) [2014] SGCA 14; and Beluga Chartering GmbH (in liquidation) v Beluga Projects (Singapore) Pte Ltd (in liquidation) and another (Deugro (Singapore) Pte Ltd, non-party) [2013] 2 SLR 1035.
